186 visa or Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS) is a permanent visa for skilled workers who want to work in Australia; there are two different ways to apply for this visa:

The Temporary Residence Transition stream is for subclass 482 visa holders who have worked for three years, while holding a subclass 482 visa, in the same occupation with their nominating employer (who is not subject to a labour agreement and who has lodged a valid nomination with us under the Temporary Residence Transition stream), who wants to offer them a permanent position in that occupation.

The Direct Entry stream is for:

people who have been nominated by their employer under the Direct Entry stream and occupation is listed on MLTSSL.
people who have never, or only briefly, worked in Australia, or
temporary residents who do not qualify for the Temporary Residence Transition stream.

Subclass 482 – Short-Term Stream

Processing Time for Graduate work Stream – Subclass 485: 5 Months

For international students with an eligible qualification who graduate with skills and qualifications that relate to an occupation on the list of eligible skilled occupations. This visa will give you 18 months of work visa from the date of granted.

Applicant must:

Be under the age of 50
Hold the student visa
Have completed the vocational course of study registered on CRICOS
Have skills and qualifications relevant to the occupation listed on skilled occupation list
Have a positive assessment of the relevant skills
Have a passport from the United Kingdom, the United States of America, Canada, New Zealand, or the Republic of Ireland, or must prove English proficiency by giving one of the following tests to secure the required score:
- IELTS
- TOEFL
- Cambridge Advanced English
- PTE Academic
- Occupational English Test
Hold health cover from an approved Australian health insurance provider when applying for the visa

Post-Study Work stream

Processing Time for Post-Study Work stream – Subclass 485: 4 – 5 Months

For international students who graduate with a higher education degree from an Australian education provider, regardless of their field of study. This visa will give you 24 months of work visa from the date of granted.

Applicant must:

Be under the age of 50
Hold the student visa granted on or after November 5, 2011
Have completed the higher education course of study registered on CRICOS
Have a passport from the United Kingdom, the United States of America, Canada, New Zealand, or the Republic of Ireland, or must prove English proficiency by giving one of the following tests to secure the required score:
- IELTS
- TOEFL
- Cambridge Advanced English
- PTE Academic
- Occupational English Test
